Map of the most popular Kona Coast dive sites.

CLASSIC KONA COAST DIVE SITES VISITED by KONA AGGRESSOR:

Kalokos Arches:    Three natural lava arches on a downhill slope at 50 ft.
Turtles frequently seen, spotted eagle rays, good spot for nudibranches.

Turtle Pinnacle:    A fun dive with several turtles, some are quite large. It is
an actual turtle cleaning station. A small pinnacle at 55 ft. marks the spot.
This is great opportunity for photographers because the turtles are still
during their cleaning. Keep an eye out for schooling barracuda.
This is a beloved Kona Coast diving classic.

Old Airport:    A locally known good spot for eels & daytime manta
fly-bys. Steep drop-off, anthias can be found here.

Shark Fin Rock:    Also off the "Old Airport Beach," lava ridges dropping
down from shore, schooling surgeons, lots of puffers.
Another Kona Coast diving classic, folks!

Manta Ray Village:    At night, huge manta rays congregate off the Kona
Surf Hotel to feed on plankton. The crew lowers large lights into the water
to attract the plankton. The entire show is right off of the dive deck. This
world famous night dive is unforgettable!

Meadows:    Shallow, gently sloping bottom. Lava tubes & arches around
30 ft., finger coral at 80 ft. where white sand flats dominate. Three shy
resident white-tip sharks, frogfish, nudibranches under ledges, mantas,
crocodile eels, & red-stripe pipe fish. Still another Kona Coast diving gem.

3-Room Cave:    200-foot lava tube with 3 large rooms. One way in, one
way out. The dive is set up with line & cylume sticks to follow. Inside the
caves there are mole lobsters, ghost shrimp, Hawaiian lobsters, puffer fish
and nudibranches. Outside the cave there are frogfish, Reticulated
Butterfly fish & turtles. An excellent Hawaii diving classic upon request.
Made only in calm seas. Another jewel of Kona diving.

Paradise Pinnacle:    Large bommie rising from 90-35 ft. out of black sand.
Garden eels, cleaner shrimp, crocodile eels, turkey fish & hairy hermit
crabs.

Au Au Crater:    A submerged volcano crater with 3 sides intact, the ocean
side wall has fallen. These Hawaii diving walls range from 30-70 ft. & 50-200 ft., very
dramatic topography with cleaner shrimp station, turkey fish and
nudibranches. Good spot for pelagics such as oceanic white-tip sharks,
hammerhead sharks, & large jacks.

The Hive:    A large bommie 30-70 ft. covered with agile chromis resembling
a swarm of bees. Cleaner shrimp station, leaf scorpions & titan
scorpions.

The Maze:    One of 2 sites off Miloli'i, oldest traditional fishing village in
Hawaii. Lava ridges & bommies twist & turn to create the walls of a
"maze" at 55 ft. Tinker's butterfly fish, bandit angels, eagle rays and
peacock groupers.

Tubastrea Tunnel:    Also off of Miloli'i Village. Lava fingers extend from
shore to form a peninsula of canyons & ridges & swim throughs. The
feature tunnel is 20 ft. wide, 10 ft. high & 40 ft. long. It is covered with
beautiful tubastrea coral. There are 3 resident frog fish. Keep an eye out
for sharks.

Okoe Bay:    A beautiful shallow bay with a black sand beach. A gentle,
white sand slope from 30-60 ft. Look for leaf scorpions, eels, decoy
scorpions & an occasional manta at night.

Thompson's Reef:    An exciting dive off a point where there can be a slight
current feeding hundreds of Thompson's butterfly fish. Sandy bottom with
white-tip sharks. Another Hawaii diving jewel, folks!

Oz:   Yes, it does have a "Yellow Brick Road." Lava ridge wall from shore to
20 ft., sand patches & reef give way to a ridge that extends straight out
off shore 200 ft. the top of which starts in 40 ft. & gently slopes to 80 ft.
The ridge top is covered with yellow lobe coral.

Catacombs:    A finger coral garden drops steeply to rubble & boulder
sloping into the endless blue. The shallows feature swim throughs,
tunnels, arches with sky lights & streaming sun rays.

Manuka Bay:    A wide protected bay of lava fingers covered with encrusting
corals. Several resident frog fish, flame angels, dragon eels, bi-colored
anthias (very rare in Hawaii), sennat barracuda & garden eels.
Snorkelers frequently encounter spinner dolphins. The night dives are
awesome with an abundance of invertebrates including Spanish dancers.
Kona live-aboard experiences like this are magical!

Stoney Mesas:    Four large bommies from 25-65 ft. deep crowded
together. Titan scorpion fish, turtles & wire coral with gobies.

Pohoe Bay:    A wide bay. Bare lava rocks with a white sand beach and
palm trees create an "Oasis" look. This is the site of an ancient Hawaiian
village. It is only ruins now with petroglyphs. Weather permitting, guests
may snorkel to shore. Underwater, there is a healthy reef with a cave
loaded with Hawaiian turkeyfish & the home to the only known pair of
Hawaiian lionfish. See how Kona live-aboard diving rocks, amigos?!

Wall's Wall:    Vertical wall starting at 45 ft. dropping to 100-150 ft. Lots of
eels, octopus, pyramid & Thompson butterfly fish.

Black Coral Forest:    The boat is moored in 50 ft. on a sand chute
which drops to 90 ft. where the first black coral tree grows, from 90 ft. the
black coral trees are endless. The rare longnose hawkfish lives here along
with barracuda & viper eels.

Rainbow Reef:    The most southerly dive site is actually the most southern
point in the United States. The sandy shoreline is flanked by steep cliffs. A
shallow wall starts at 15-40 ft. The wall becomes rocky & drops of to a
sandy flat at 100 ft. Large silver milkfish, garden eels & bi-colored
anthias. This pride of the Kona live-aboards has it all!

(All Hawaii diving sites are selected by the captain & may vary due to weather conditions & logistics.)

ANSWERS to the MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
about the KONA AGGRESSOR LIVE-ABOARD:

1. Where exactly is Kona?
Kona, better known as Kailua-Kona, is on the "Big Island" of Hawaii,
the largest of the Hawaiian chain

2. What is included in the Kona live-aboard charter?
Accommodations aboard the vessel, diving, compressed air tanks,
weights & weight belts, airport transfers on day of arrival and
departure, meals & snacks, non-alcoholic & local alcoholic
beverages are include in the charter rate.

3. How many days is the Kona live-aboard charter & how many dives can I make?
The Kona Aggressor II scuba charter is seven days, Saturday afternoon to
Saturday morning, with five & one-half days of diving. Most guests
make up to 5 dives a day. Diving begins on Sunday morning and
ends about midday on Friday when we return to the dock.

4. When should I arrive in Kona for my Kona live-aboard vacation?
You should plan to arrive in Kona on the day of your charter,
  Saturday.

5. Are there any taxes or fees not included in the Kona live-aboard charter price?
Only a nominal USDT tariff, normally $35 per client.

6. Do I need a passport?
Hawaii is part of the United States, therefore, U.S. citizens are not
required to have a passport. Non-U.S. citizens should check with the
  appropriate consulate.

7. How do I meet the Kona Aggressor II on the day of departure?
If you arrive in Kona on the day of your charter, you will be met at
the Keahole Airport by a uniformed crew member & taken to the
boat. If you are already in the Kona area, you will need to make your
way to the boat anytime after 2:00 p.m.

8. Where does the Kona Aggressor II dock, where all the Kona live-aboards go?
The Kona Aggressor II docks in Kailua-Kona Bay near King
  Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel.

9. What is special about the diving on the Kona Coast?
Everyone has at least heard of the magnificent whales, but Kona's
macro-photography is unbelievable: shark nose blennies, harlequin
shrimp, frogfish, lionfish & many other wonderful creatures. The
tropical fish species in the Pacific are a great deal different from
those most divers are accustomed to seeing in the Caribbean. Many
species are endemic to Hawaii, making it a special place for
fish-watchers. Manta Ray Village is one of Kona's most famous night
diving spots. Several large mantas, with "wing" spans of 8 - 16 feet,
tumble & barrel roll through the water right in front of the divers.

10. What is the water temperature? Will I need a wet suit?
The water temperature ranges from about 74 to 80F. We suggest
that all divers have a wet suit. During the summer months, a thin
3mm (1/8 inch) suit is sufficient, but during the slightly cooler winter
months, a 5mm (1/4 inch) suit is recommended. A hood or hooded
vest is very helpful if you have a tendency to get chilled. The
visibility ranges from 75 to 125 feet.

11. What is the best time of year for diving off Kona live-aboards?
Diving is superb year-round. Several species of whales are present
during the winter months, however, the seas can be a little rough.
While Hawaii does not have an actual rainy season, average rainfall
is slightly higher between February & April.

12. What type of topography can I expect to see in Hawaii?
The Kona coast has many different bays, coves, lagoons, lava flows,
black sand, white sand & green sand beaches & dramatic cliffs
  plus unique lava formations.

13. Is there dinghy diving off this Kona live-aboard?
No, most of the diving is done directly from the dive platform of the
  Kona Aggressor II.

14. Is there night diving, as well, off this fine Kona live-aboard?
Absolutely. The night diving is terrific.  Divemasters reserve the right to
nix night dives if weather or currents are not safe for clients.

15. What is planned for Friday afternoon & evening after we return to port?
This is your opportunity to shop or sight-see in Kona. The Kona
Aggressor II crew hosts a cocktail party Friday evening. Dinner is not
served on board. The crew can recommend a local restaurant
and/or luau & arrange transportation. This meal is not included in
  the charter price.

16. When is check-out time on this yacht, the Queen of Kona live-aboards?
  Check-out is between 7:00 & 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

17. Where is the nearest recompression chamber since this Kona live-aboard
do not maintain such chambers actually on board the yacht ?

The nearest recompression is in Honolulu on the island of Oahu.

IMPORTANT REMINDER about PRICES & TARIFFS:

All Kona live-aboard dive package prices listed here are subject to possible change in this steadily evolving travel market. Lodging, side tour & diving prices are traditionally stable, as are live-aboard package prices; however air prices can fluctuate daily. Until air tickets are issued, all airlines reserve the right to change airfares without notice -- an industry standard per FAA rules. Remember please, the federal government has deregulated all U.S.-based airlines, so only they control their pricing -- not any travel professionals. Early is good when seeking the best air ticket rates for Kona live-aboards or any dive yachts.

Unless specifically noted, these above Kona scuba diving packages are prices for only the liveaboard portion of your dive trip, in most cases reflecting double-occupancy rooms. On most Hawaii live-aboards, there will be no triple-occupancy staterooms offered. International air tickets & commuter "island-hopper" seats are always extra above these land costs. Nominal service fees are also extra for air tickets & the dive vessel + side tour components. The baseline tariffs for all Hawaii live-aboard clients start at $45 per person for the land portion + $35 pp for the air tickets. Late-booking clients on Hawaii live-aboards may receive slightly higher tariffs on the lodging + diving at many of our dive resorts. Solo clients on Hawaii live-aboards always will pay a single supplement to secure a private stateroom -- normally 50% more -- unless you are willing to twin-share a cabin with another randomly assigned diver of your same sex.

The preferred payment mode for Hawaii live-aboards, dive resorts, side tours & air ticket specials is by cashier's check or wire transfer in U.S. dollars. All clients for Hawaii live-aboards who are living outside the USA or Canada will need to pay for their Kona dive vacations via direct wire transfer only. No personal checks will be accepted for the Hawaii live-aboard package portion of any dive travel reservation. Thank you for your gracious understanding. Our service level is the highest & our prices the lowest in this industry, & thus we need to preserve a reasonable margin. For published-fare air ticket bookings, USDT always accepts Visa & Mastercard. For discount wholesale air tickets, USDT accepts only cashier's checks or wire transfers, please.

If you need more information about any of these scuba vacation topics -- U.S. Dive Travel, dive travel, live-aboard, live-aboards, Hawaii live-aboards, Hawaii liveaboards, Hawaii live-aboard, Hawaii liveaboard, Kona live-aboards, Kona live-aboard, Kona liveaboards, Kona liveaboard, Kona diving, Kona scuba diving, Kona Aggressor, Aggressor Fleet, Hawaii diving, Hawaii scuba diving -- then please call our travel planners at 952-953-4124 & they will be more than happy to assist you.
