Aboard the Okeanos Aggressor, you'll visit legendary Cocos Island in Costa Rica, about 260 miles west of the Costa Rica mainland. Cocos Island diving is an experience on a par with the Galapagos, or the finest Pacific adventure scuba diving destinations. For years the darling of the scuba diving magazines, this is one of the largest uninhabited islands in the world. The walls & crevices & sea flats of remote Cocos Island are known for big sea animal activity. Sharks, rays & dolphins, plus schools of hammerheads & tuna abound here. You'll see them in thick numbers, amigos! If pelagic action is your special taste, you'd be hard-pressed to beat the big fish vistas you'll enjoy when scuba diving from the Okeanos Aggressor. This is where Cocos Island diving, the real soul of Costa Rica diving, is to be found in a major way. Among several Cocos Island live-aboards, the Okeanos Aggressor is a 4-star gem afloat.
After a gentle & relaxing cruise on Okeanos Aggressor out to Cocos Island, by the time you get there you'll feel that half your worries have melted into the mystic fissure where blue sky meets deep blue water. The next morning after reaching Cocos Island, you'll lose the other half before you even blink twice. You'll find it hard to resist the tropical spell of this remote & still untrampled isle, where the air is redolent of flowers & fresh vegetation, & it's brushed with the calming whoosh of distant waterfalls & jungle birds calling out into the breeze of the day. This is the kind of Cocos Island diving environment that lodges only in the dreams of live-aboard dive travel aficionados. But at U.S. Dive Travel, we can make that scuba diving vision into pulse-pumping reality in a jiffy, with a few hours of phone calls & faxes for you. Cocos Island live-aboards are worth the effort, oh ye diving mavens!
Some mornings as you dive off the Okeanos Aggressor, you'll be up to your sternum in the compelling feelings of Adrenaline City, when you suddenly sense a great gray cloud passing overhead then look up to find, maybe 30-50 feet above you, a couple hundred schooling hammerheads or a phalanx of curious whitetips, just out for an afternoon gang-glide. This is Cocos Island diving at its finest, when the big sharks come out to play. No such thing as ho-hum dive trips at Cocos. Most days on Cocos Island live-aboards, you'll be entertained by the many nosy moray eels that poke up from the sea bed to ask you, jaws gaping, "So what's happenin'?" You'll probably see some enormous spiny lobsters down in the cracks & crannies, as the sun overhead wanes. Please don't touch. Cocos Island diving is a tender venture into a protected marine preserve & the people of Costa Rica want to keep it beautiful, & fresh, for many more decades to come. We really hope our kids, & their kids to follow, get to taste the scuba delights of this amazing & colorful locale, just the way it is today -- fresh, clean, unspoiled by industrial greed, & rollicking with big fish everywhere. So this, dear readers, is why Cocos Island diving is the heart & soul of the best offshore Costa Rica diving, many scuba diving pros will maintain. Dive tours like these, on a Cocos Island live-aboard, are among the few that truly merit the tag of world-class.

OVERVIEW of the OKEANOS AGGRESSOR ITINERARY:
The 120-foot Okeanos Aggressor, which hosted a Dateline NBC crew filming a "Thrill Seeker" program, offers ten-day & nine-day dive adventures originating in Puntarenas, a small fishing village on the western coast of Costa Rica. After an overnight stay in San Jose, Costa Rica, Aggressor guest board a charter bus for a scenic, two-hour bus ride through Costa Rica's beautiful countryside before arriving at the Okeanos Aggressor port. Once on board, guests may unpack, relax & enjoy delicious dinner served by the on-board chef. The 36-hour journey to Cocos gives everyone a chance to prepare their gear & get to know one another; it also adds to excitement of what lies ahead.
Throughout this week of Cocos Island diving, you'll encounter a spectacular array of marine life large & small-most quite large! Many diver describe the diving at Cocos as "high-voltage" or "on-the-edge," & after drift dives at Alcyone or Big Dos Amigos with a few hundred hammerheads, thousands of horse-eye jacks & a manta or two, you may agree. Other frequently seen marine life includes dolphins, tuna, marble rays, eels, white tip sharks & silky sharks. Okeanos Aggressor scuba divers have also been treated to spectacular whale shark encounters. Weather permitting, guests will be shuttled to the island for a hiking tour. The lush uninhabited island in covered with verdant jungles & countless waterfalls all waiting your exploration. You may want to capture some of the Cocos' underwater splendor on film with one of the on-board rental underwater cameras. There is a full line of rental camera equipment & dive gear available throughout the week, as well as certification & specialty courses including nitrox certification.
At the end of your Cocos Island scuba diving tours, the Okeanos Aggressor returns
to Puntarenas. Check-out is between 7:00 & 7:30 a.m. On the day of
departure, the crew will transport you & your luggage with the group
to your hotel, or the airport in San Jose. Due to cooler water temperatures
& strong currents, the diving conditions in Cocos may not be suitable
for beginner divers. Throughout the world, Aggressors emphasize safety + fun.

VESSEL SPECIFICATIONS & AMENITIES:
Nine well-appointed staterooms have both double & single berths to accommodate individuals or couples. In addition to those cabins, one quad stateroom has four single berths. All cabins are fully carpeted, air-conditioned, & have a private bath with in-room vanity. Seven cabins are located on the lower level & three are on the upper level. A port window offers great views & plenty of natural light. Your cabin is just steps away from the main salon, dining room & dive deck.
The salon, located on the main level, is an attractively furnished area designed for comfort & relaxation. It features a complete entertainment center with TV, VCR, stereo with compact disc player, & a well stocked library of books & magazines. The dining area is separate from the main salon & has two large tables with chairs & a buffet counter.
Exiting the salon & traveling toward the stern of the Okeanos Aggressor, guests enter the large dive deck. Each guest has his/her own dive station with locker for gear storage. The lockers are actually seats used for donning & removing gear. Air & nitrox tanks are conveniently located on the back of locker, always hooked up & ready for diving. Divemasters will fill your tanks in the dive tenders & prepare your equipment for the next dive while you relax. A large, three-tier camera table, with low pressure air nozzles, charging stations, camera rinse tank & wet suit racks are located on this spacious deck. There is a dive briefing area for drawing dive site illustrations & giving site details, along with a head & two freshwater showers located on this deck.
A large dive platform is located only inches from the water level & just a few steps from the dive deck. Most diving is done from the dive tenders, however, the platform is great for snorkeling between dives. Batteries, & an underwater video system are available on board. The Cocos Island live-aboard photo pro is eager to give tips or a comprehensive course with specialty certification.
A wet bar is located on the upper level. (After all, no dive trips need be humdrum!) This open air lounge is a great place for swapping stories about the day's diving & sightseeing. If you would like to catch some sun, this spacious vessel offers guests two sun areas. One is on the upper level near the wheel station & the other is on the top level. The view from the top level of this Cocos Island live-aboard is astonishing. This is the nerve center of serious Cocos Island scuba diving plans, amigos del mar.

ANSWERS to the most COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
about COCOS ISLAND & the OKEANOS AGGRESSOR:
1. Where is Cocos Island?
Cocos Island is located 600 km (approximately 375 miles) off the western
coast of Costa Rica, in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
2. What is included in this Costa Rica diving charter?
Accommodations aboard the vessel, diving, compressed air tanks, weights
& weight belts, transportation from the San Jose office to Puntarenas
on day of arrival & departure, meals & snacks, non-alcoholic &
local alcoholic beverages are include in the charter rate.
3. How many days is the Cocos Island scuba diving charter & how many dives can I
make?
The Okeanos Aggressor offers 9-day, Saturday to Monday, Costa Rica diving charters with
6 days of diving & 10-day, Tuesday to Friday, charters with 7 days
of diving. Most guests make up to 3 dives a day.
4. When should I arrive in Costa Rica for this dive tour?
You should arrive in Costa Rica the day before your charter begins
& plan on spending the night in San Jose, the capital city. We
will help you secure a safe, friendly, low-cost room downtown, close to
the vessel office.
5. Are there any taxes or fees not included in this Cocos Island scuba diving charter
price?
Yes, there are park fees & the USDT tariff. Here is how they
work. First comes the park fees: about $120 US per scuba diver (CASH ONLY, no traveler's
checks) Park Fee per person will be collected during your charter. The
Costa Rican government implemented this charge to maintain Cocos Island
& preserve its natural habitat. There is also an about $30 U.S. Dive Tax. This
fee covers one diver for the entire dive charter. A departure tax of about $25 US
per person will be collected upon your departure from San Jose. There will
be a one-time $35 per client USDT tariff, payable with first deposit.
These previous fees are levied by the Costa Rican government & are
subject to change.
6. Do I need a passport to get into Costa Rica for my Cocos Island diving package?
U.S. citizens are required to have a passport. Non-U.S. citizens should
check with the appropriate consulate.
7. How do I meet the Okeanos Aggressor on the day of departure?
We recommend staying at the Amon Park Plaza Hotel near the Okeanos
Aggressor office. Otherwise, you need to arrange to be at the Okeanos Aggressor
office by 12:00 noon on the day of departure. From there, guests will be
transported to the port town of Puntarenas (about two hours by bus) to
board the boat.
8. Where does the Okeanos Aggressor dock before these Cocos Island diving trips?
The Okeanos Aggressor docks at the Muelle Copeinpesa in Puntarenas.
"Muelle" means pier or docks.
9. What is unique to Cocos Island scuba diving? Will this Cocos Island live-aboard deliver the goods?
Lots of large pelagic animals, particularly the schools of scalloped
hammerhead sharks. White tip reef sharks are also abundant, as are schools
of tuna, jack & snapper. Whales sharks & dolphins are frequently
sighted.
10. What is the diving like around Cocos Island?
Diving around Cocos Island is more difficult due to its ruggedness
& currents. Diving from the dinghies has advantages, but can be physically
challenging for some.
11. What is the water temperature on these Cocos Island diving adventures? Will I need a wet suit?
As Jed Clampett used to say: "yes indeedy!" During the winter,
water temperature ranges between 73 & 78F, while in the summer it warms
up to 78 - 80F. A wet suit is highly recommended. A 3-5-3 mm wetsuit with
hood & warm booties is recommended for most females, & thin males,
during the cooler months. But a 3 mm suit with hood & booties
is generally sufficient for most divers during the warmer months of summer.
12. Is there dinghy diving on these Cocos Island diving trips?
Yes, almost all dives are made from a dinghy, to give you maximum freedom
of choice, & to minimize any negative impact on the environment.
13. Is there night diving on this Cocos Island live-aboard?
Sure thing, as with most Aggressors. All the time, with one important caveat. Night
dives are scheduled at the discretion of the divemaster since sharks are
so plentiful in the area. But these sharks are cool to view,
& one of the main reasons our clients LOVE this expedition.
14. Are there any land tours on Cocos Island, largest uninhabited
isle in the Pacific?
Weather permitting, guests will be taken to the island for a hiking
tour to spice up your Cocos Island scuba diving tour.
15. What type of topography can I expect to see in Cocos Island?
The island is volcanic in origin, & is therefore mountainous. Dense
jungle covers the land. Numerous waterfalls, rivers & ponds are created
by the regular rains.
16. What is the best time of year for scuba vacations?
May through October is generally considered prime time for a Cocos Island scuba diving tour, but conditions
are generally very good all year round. There really is no
bad time to dive Cocos Island, except during a severe El Nino in the middle
of summer, when surface temps are too high for the big pelagics to be plentiful.
17. When is the normal rainy season at Cocos Island?
The rainy season is from May through November. Cocos Island supports
a true tropical rain forest & receives an abundance of rain, particularly
around the mountain peaks. Overcast skies & frequent showers are common.
But Cocos Island diving is still magnificent this time of year, so no worries.
The critters are plentiful ANY time the water is not excessively warm.
18. When is checkout time on the vessel?
Check out is between 7:00 & 7:30 a.m on the morning of departure.
The Cocos Island live-aboard crew will transport you & your luggage back to San Jose, dropping
you at either the airport or your hotel. The Cocos Island diving charter of a lifetime has ended -- bittersweetly --
with fond memories yet a sadness to leave such a glorious Costa Rica diving realm.

IMPORTANT REMINDER about PRICES & TARIFFS:
All Cocos Island Aggressor package prices listed here are subject to possible change in this steadily evolving travel market. Lodging, side tour & diving prices are traditionally stable, as are live-aboard package prices; however air prices can fluctuate daily. Until air tickets are issued, all airlines reserve the right to change airfares without notice -- an industry standard per FAA rules. Remember please, the federal government has deregulated all U.S.-based airlines, so only they control their pricing -- not any travel professionals. Early is good when seeking the best air ticket rates.
Unless specifically noted, these above Cocos Island Aggressor scuba diving packages are prices for only the live-aboard portion of your dive trip, in most cases reflecting double-occupancy rooms. On Cocos Island live-aboards, there will be no triple-occupancy staterooms offered. International air tickets & commuter "island-hopper" seats are always extra above these land costs. Nominal service fees are also extra for air tickets & the dive vessel + side tour components. The baseline tariffs for all clients start at $55 per person for the land portion + $45 pp for the air tickets. Late-booking clients may receive slightly higher tariffs on the lodging + diving at many of our dive resorts. Solo clients will always pay a single supplement to secure a private stateroom -- normally 50% more than the standard double-occupancy rate for the Cocos Island live-aboard.
The preferred payment mode for all of our Cocos Island Aggressor vacation packages + dive resorts, side tours & air ticket specials is by cashier's check or wire transfer in U.S. dollars. All clients living outside the USA or Canada will need to pay for their dive vacations via direct wire transfer only. No personal checks will be accepted for any Costa Rica diving reservation. Thank you for your gracious understanding. Our service level for Costa Rica diving tours is the highest & our prices the lowest in this industry, & thus we need to preserve a reasonable margin. For published-fare air ticket bookings, USDT always accepts Visa & Mastercard. For discount wholesale air tickets, USDT accepts only cashier's checks or wire transfers, please.
So funseekers, if you need more info about any of these dive vacation topics -- U.S. Dive Travel, dive travel, live-aboards, live-aboard, Cocos Island, Cocos Island live-aboards, Cocos Island live-aboard, Cocos Island liveaboards, Cocos Island liveaboard, Cocos Island diving, Okeanos, Okeanos Aggressor, Okeanos dive package, Okeanos dive vacation, Okeanos scuba vacation, Aggressor Fleet, Costa Rica diving -- please feel free to call us any time at 952-953-4124.

Remember, all Costa Rica diving vacation clients to all foreign destinations will be asked by local officials overseas, upon departing the airport on your final day, to pay a nominal government departure tax, usually between USD $35 - $45 per client. USDT cannot collect this tax beforehand, so you simply pay it down there, in your host country. Be sure to stash away a little cash for this final moment at the airport, so you'll get your exit visa stamped quickly with no fuss; & away you go. Best of luck with your Cocos Island dive vacation plans. We hope your Cocos Island diving vacation is a safe & satisfying adventure. Blessings & best wishes with ALL your Costa Rica dive vacations.
Best fishes too!
